Ethical standards are important in promoting safe and professional counselling and psychotherapy practices. These are important in order that members/registrants deliver a professional level of service that caters for the best interests of their clients, and the public at large. Professional accountability is also key in ensuring public protection and allows the Profession to move forward enjoying the public confidence in the services provided.
With effect from 1 July 2016, BACP introduced the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which replaced the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
The BACP promotes the value of counselling and good practice. For this reason BACP is concerned that a person who is not satisfied with a Registrant/Member of BACP should have the opportunity to air their grievance or to make a complaint and seek resolution. Organisational members of BACP are responsible for ensuring that counsellors working within their organisation practise in accordance with the relevant BACP Ethical Framework.
